6 Chic Ways to Style Black Linen Shorts: A Summer Staple

Summer is in full swing, and I’m all about being as comfortable as possible while trying to look cute and also getting the most use out of my wardrobe that I possibly can.

One of the most versatile pieces you can add to your summer collection is a pair of black linen shorts. These ones are from J Crew Factory, and I’ve had them for 3-4 years now (plus they’re currently on sale for $19.95!). Not only are they comfortable and breathable, but they can also be dressed up or down for many occasions. In this post, I’ll show you six chic ways to style black linen shorts and share why I think they’re a summer staple.

If you prefer video content, watch the reel HERE.

1. Casual Monochromatic: For a casual but cool look, try pairing your black shorts with a black top. I am wearing a black tee, but a tank would work just as well. I paired my monochromatic look with my tan/taupe accessories, and they pop against the black.

2. Laid-Back: For a laid-back look, pair your black linen shorts with a white tank & a lightweight button up. I like to take the opportunity to wear a denim button up when I’m not wearing denim shorts! Pair it with slip on sandals and a leather backpack.

3. Dressy Casual: For a day or night out, dress up your black linen shorts with a printed blouse and some leather sandals. Add some statement jewelry or a fun bag for a touch of glam.

4. Athleisure: For a laid-back look, pair your black linen shorts with a striped tee (or graphic tee!), sporty sandals & a belt bag. Add a baseball cap for an even sportier vibe!

5. Neutral Casual: For a timeless look, pair your black linen shorts with a neutral top that adds some interest— the extended shoulders on this tee add a bit of visual excitement & I also added a printed scarf to my bag for some pattern.

6. Boho Chic: For a bohemian vibe, pair your black linen shorts with a flowy top and some brown leather sandals. Add a fun bag for some interest and personality!

Black linen shorts are a summer staple for several reasons. First, they’re incredibly versatile and I love being able to wear them causally or dressed up. Second, they’re comfortable and breathable, making them absolutely perfect for hot summer days. Lastly, they’re easy to care for and can be worn season after season (like I said, I’ve had these for 3-4 years now and they still look great!).

If you’re looking for a versatile and stylish addition to your summer wardrobe, look no further than black linen shorts. With these six great ways to style them, you’ll not only be ready for any occasion this summer, you’ll also be super comfortable!

How to Realistically Wear Black Denim Jeans in the Spring (10 different ways)

In the past few years, I have struggled with dressing how I’m “supposed” to dress and actually dressing realistically and how I want to dress. What I mean by that is that NORMALLY for spring its florals, pastels, & color, and while I do enjoy those things, I want to make sure I am dressing how I WANT to and not just what is on trend for the season. These ten outfits may not be your typical “spring” outfits, but they feel very “me”, are quite realistic for where I live, and I love them!

I bought these black denim jeans from Madewell this past winter and they’re so great, but sometimes I find them harder to wear than my blue jeans because I overthink it. This is why I decided to do some styling sessions, so I’d have inspiration to look back on when I want to wear them.

I created a few reels styling them and these are screenshots from those reels (which is why the photos aren’t amazing quality– but they give you the gist of the outfits, which is what’s most important ;). You can see the reels here, here, and here.

As always, I will link everything I can (and similar items!) at the bottom of the post. I use affiliate links, which means that if you purchase something using my links I earn a very small commission, at no addional cost to you. It’s a great way to support me on here and I always appreciate it. Thanks so much 🙂

I love this outfit. I wear this yellow/brown button up religiously in the spring/summer. I bought it from Target a few years ago, so it’s gone now, but I found an almost identical top that I linked below.

This jacket is a perfect spring color & is lightweight and comfy! I paired it with white sneakers which always look so cute for spring.

This little open weave sweater is so cute for spring. You can wear a tank over it or wear it open like I am. I paired it with my birkenstock boston clog lookalikes.

Black on black is always classic and I love this cardigan with the tortoise shell buttons.

This tan/taupe muscle tee is from chicwich and sold out in most sizes now, but I have an almost identical one from target that I linked. It’s so cute and the sleeves make it interesting. I’m wearing my birkenstock sandals and it’s such a casual vibe.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop wearing this cardigan from h&m that I have in two colors (sold out now). It’s the easiest thing to throw on and feel put together. I will link similar cardigans. It’s hard to tell in this photo, but I’m also wearing a striped linen tee. So comfy and cute!

Mott & Bow makes these great boxy cropped tees that dont need to be tucked to look put together. Again, I went with all black here and added a leather backpack and taupe birkenstock sandals for a cool casual vibe.

Chambray is a no brainer when it comes to pairing it with black denim. I chose a heather grey tee and white sneakers to really make this outfit cute!

If you’ve been around for the last year, you know this cotton button up has been a STAPLE in my wardrobe. It is currently sold out, but this style top is SO popular so I linked some similar options.

This outfit is the least “spring-y” of them all, but I love it just the same. It works for spring where I live (where it is still cold and wet and muddy). I love this 100% cotton organic sweater from Quince & you know I’m wearing my blundstones into spring as long as it’s wet out!

3 cozy outfits for the winter season

We’re in the thick of January & the winter temperatures seem to be just beginning. I’m hopeful the snow is here to stay & it looks like negative temperatures next week. For me, this means I want to be as cozy & as warm as possible, all while still trying to remain semi cute. I put together a few cozy outfits I’ll be wearing this winter with items from Pinkblush.

If you prefer video content, see the reel HERE.

At the end of the post I will link everything I can (& similar items if something is older/sold out). This sweater is soooo soft and has a super cozy material. The color is a warm beige & it goes well with my Portland Leather Festival bag (my bag is the honey color) & my chelsea boots (my boots are the bourbon color)!

This sweater is such a pretty taupe color & is a lookalike for the popular free people easy street tunic. It works well for a casual outfit with jeans & is long enough to wear with leggings for an even comfier outfit.

I own these black linen pants in the taupe color & really love them so I wanted a black pair as well (they come in a bunch of colors). I love the thick waistband and the cute wide leg cut. They’re extremely comfy & cute. I paired them with this rib knit sweater & a pair of heeled black booties to make them more appropriate for winter weather.

Which cozy winter look would you wear?

How to Style: Short Overalls

I’ve styled overalls on my blog before (you can check out that post here!) but it’s been about two years now & I wanted to do an updated post on styling overalls. In my last post, I styled denim pant overalls. I recently picked up a pair of 100% cotton short overalls (or shorteralls as they’re sometimes called) & they’re so cute and easy to wear! I am styling them 4 ways in this blog post. The cotton material makes them perfectly breathable for warmer weather!

If you prefer video content, you can watch the reel HERE!

As always, I will link everything I can at the bottom of the post. If something is older or out of stock, I will do my best to link similar options. I use affiliate links, which means I make a small commission if you purchase something using my links. Thanks for your support–it means the world to me!

I think this first look is just super adorable! A striped linen blend tee (that’s only $10?!) with cotton shortalls?! So cute!

This second looks feels so casual and cute! A sweater makes it cozy on top and cooler on the bottom.

This third outfit is perfect for those really hot days! A tank under overalls always looks super sweet. I think this color of the madewell tanks is sold out, but I will link the tanks anyway (in lots of colors!) because they’re some of my favorites for summer!

The final look is a favorite– I loved shackets for fall & winter and a gauzy/linen/cotton button up shirt is the perfect summer version of a shacket. Effortless and cool!

Would you wear short overalls (shorteralls)?! If so, which look would you try?
