Jewelry: My Top Picks for Brands and Pieces

I wear jewelry just about every day, and my favorite pieces are typically simple, yellow gold pieces. They add interest, personality, sparkle, and make me feel more put together. If you’re interested in adding classic, simple, and beautiful jewelry to your collection, this blog post is a great resource. It will feature my favorite jewelry pieces and brands that I believe are worth exploring.

For me, necklaces are my most worn pieces–I have about 6-8 necklaces I cycle through and then I generally wear a simple pair of hoops most days (I have two favorites).
There are 3 brands that I typically wear the most, & I’ll be sharing my everyday go-to pieces and the pieces I wear when I want to dress up a little more.

The first brand I want to mention is Sela Designs.
Sela Designs is a remarkable brand that deserves recognition for its outstanding commitment to making a positive impact. Their mission revolves around donating 100% of their profits to charities that aid victims of human trafficking, individuals trapped in poverty, and orphaned children. The combination of their philanthropic efforts and their dedication to crafting ethically made, top-notch jewelry makes them an excellent choice for conscientious customers. As an added bonus, I am thrilled to collaborate with them and share a special discount code with you. By using the code MARISSA10 at checkout, you can enjoy a 10% discount on any purchase from their shop.

The first piece I want to share from Sela Designs is the Everyday Hoop Earrings. These are one of my favorites & most worn pairs of earrings. I love that they are lightweight, simple, and easy to wear. They clip into themselves, (so my hair doesn’t get stuck in them) & they are a perfect amount of thickness to add interest to your outfit.

The second piece I love from Sela Designs are the Ivory Lake Earrings. These earrings are ones I wear when I want to dress up a little bit more and they are stunning– the raffia adds beautiful texture to your outfit and the disks are a neutral bone color.

I own multiple other pairs of earrings from Sela Designs, but the colors I own them in are sold out. I will share the other colors here: The Mia Earrings (I own the black) & the Oakleigh Earrings, which are pictured on the left (I own the cognac).

There are many other pieces from Sela Designs that include more earrings, necklaces, & bracelets, so be sure to check them out!

The second brand I want to share is GLDN. They have an extensive range of amazing pieces, and what’s even more exciting is that a lot of their collection is customizable! This means you can create jewelry that perfectly reflects your personal style. I have had the pleasure of partnering with GLDN in the past, although regrettably, I don’t have a discount code to offer in this blog post. If I am able to secure one in the future, I will update this post and include it here.

I have been wearing GLDN jewelry for 5-6 years. It all began when my husband gifted me with a beautifully crafted necklace from GLDN when they were still solely on Etsy. Since then, I have become a fan and collector of their pieces. In fact, I can confidently say that the majority of the necklaces I wear most frequently are from GLDN. So, needless to say, I have an assortment of their pieces to share with you.

The necklace my husband bought me is the Lucine Necklace. It’s so dainty and gorgeous! I love the hammered open circle detail and how simple and sweet it is. I have it in the 15-17″ option, but I also own a necklace extender that I use when I want to make my shorter necklaces longer. The Mona Necklace is very similar to the one I own, it’s just a smaller circle (9mm instead of 11mm).

The next necklace I wear ALL the time is the Marama Necklace. I customized mine with a hammered finish and mine is the 19-21″ length. It looks great all on its own or layered with any of my other necklaces.

Another favorite is the Small Flora Link Necklace. I had mine customized with my birth month flower and I have the 15-17″. I love that this one is suspended (like the Lucine circle necklace) because it stays in place and doesn’t spin around.

Another necklace I wear often is the Friendship Beads Necklace. I customized mine with 3 beads to represent my two sons and my husband, but you can add up to 7 beads. This necklace is so simple and pretty.

Other necklaces I wear often are Maia Gemstone Necklace (you can customize the bead colors– I think my color is sold out), the Personalized Mary Necklace (with the starburst illustration on it), and the Personalized Florence Necklace (mine is hammered).

LLUME is the third and final brand I want to share. They are a small brand that creates beautiful and affordable jewelry. A lot of their pieces are meant to mix and match and be worn and styled together. I also love that they offer free shipping and returns! LLUME reached out to me in the past to collaborate and they were kind enough to give me a discount code for this post. You can use the code “MARISSA15” to get 15% off any purchase from their store.

My favorite piece from their store is the Prosecco Beaded Hoop earrings (I am wearing them in the picture to the right, although they’re hard to see). I have owned them for a year now, and I’m not kidding when I say they are my most worn pair of earrings. They’re small, lightweight, and the beaded texture is just too cute. If I wanted to sleep in them I could because they close into themselves and are so comfortable.

The other piece I own from Llume is the Colette Necklace. It’s a simple and dainty gold chain that’s perfect for everyday wear and layering. It looks great on it’s own or combined with other necklaces.

Jewelry is a great way to add some personality and sparkle to any outfit. Whether you prefer delicate pieces or bold statement jewelry, there’s something out there for everyone. What are your favorite jewelry pieces? Let me know in the comments below!

I hope this post was helpful and if you have any questions, please feel free to comment, send me an email or send me a message and I’d be happy to help!

Revamping Your Wardrobe: Tips for Adding Personality to Your Fashion Choices

I’ve always had a love for fashion, but I recently found myself in a bit of a rut. I was sticking to neutrals and playing it safe with my outfits. I realized that, as a style blogger, I was choosing clothes that were “easy” for others to recreate, instead of wearing what I really wanted to wear. I’ll always love neutrals, and they are SO NECESSARY for building a versatile wardrobe, but I needed to add some more fun to my wardrobe.

This year, I decided to make a change. I wanted to get my fun and personality back into my fashion choices. I started experimenting with different colors, textures, and accessories, and I’ve been loving the results.

One of my favorite ways to add some personality to my outfits is by playing with different colors. I used to shy away from bold hues, but now I’m all about a pop of color. Whether it’s a bright orange scarf or a fun-colored pair of pants (or pink hair!) I love how a bold color can instantly elevate an outfit.

Textures are another way I’ve been spicing up my wardrobe. I used to stick to plain cotton and denim, but now I’m all about mixing things up. I love the look of a chunky knit sweater with a pair of shorts, or a silky blouse paired with distressed jeans. I also love linen and wear it often in the warmer months.

Accessories have also been a game-changer for me. I used to think that accessories were just an afterthought, but now I realize that they can make or break an outfit. I’ve been having fun experimenting with different scarves, bags, and jewelry (but I’ll always love my dainty gold jewelry the most!)

Boots and vests are two of my new favorite accessories this season. I love how a pair of boots (ankle boots, tall boots, or cowboy boots) can make such a difference in an outfit depending on how you wear them, or how a vest can make a simple outfit look more interesting. I love wearing a knit vest over a dress or a plain tee or tank, and I recently ordered a cotton vest from Etsy that I’m excited to wear and style!

While it’s great to experiment with different colors, textures, and accessories, it’s also important to prioritize comfort. After all, if you’re not comfortable in your clothes, you won’t be able to fully enjoy your day. But just because you’re focusing on comfort doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style and personality. There are plenty of comfortable and stylish options out there, so it’s great to try things and find what works for you.

It’s so necessary to remember to have fun with your clothes. Fashion should be a form of self-expression, and it’s a great way to show off your personality. While neutrals will always be in style, it’s important to remember that fashion is personal and should reflect who you are. So don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors, textures, and accessories to find your own unique style!

Also, this doesn’t mean I won’t continue to create outfits that are easy to recreate— I really love doing that for myself and for you! But I will be adding some extra “personality” to some of my outfits here and there for my own happiness 🙂

Lovely Jewelry to Give this Christmas (and a discount code!)

If you’ve been around for awhile, you know that GLDN is my favorite jewelry brand. I’ve owned multiple pieces from them for years & found them long before I began collaborating with them (I think through Pinterest!).

My husband has gifted me bracelets & necklaces from them for Christmas and Birthdays and I just love their dainty pieces. I wear a piece from them almost daily & I am so excited to collaborate with them again to show you some great pieces you can gift to someone special for the holidays!

Personally, I tend to stick to necklaces & earrings, but they carry rings & bracelets as well!

I love that most, if not all, of their pieces come in 14k gold fill, sterling silver, or solid gold. You can choose which look & price point works best for you. Another great feature they offer is that a lot of their pieces have an option to be customized (initials, dates, flowers, images, hammed or smooth, etc.) which makes them perfect for gift giving!

I’m sharing 4 pieces today— see the reel HERE!

I do have a discount code– use MARISSAWEARSANOUTFIT to get $10 off your order until the end of 2021.

There are two pieces in this picture, but I am going to focus on the earrings. They are the 14k gold filled hammered Sonia Cuff Hoops. They are a lovely & classic pair of hoops. I tend to love the hammered look for some texture, but you can get a smooth finish as well. They also come in sterling silver & a solid gold.

This necklace is the Lor Necklace in 14k gold fill. I got it personalized with an evergreen tree & a hammered texture. I love it for this time of year & throughout winter! Just a cute little festive piece!

This is just another view of the Sonia Cuff Hoops! So pretty & dainty.

This is the Friendship Beads Necklace in 14k gold fill. You can personalize the number of beads & chose 3 to represent my two boys & my husband.

This is the Tiny Gemstone Necklace in 14k gold fill, the color beads are Andalusite. This gemstone necklace comes in SO many beautiful gemstones & colors. I just really liked the color of this one & that’s why I chose it. 🙂

Again, until the end of the year you can use discount code MARISSAWEARSANOUTFIT for $10 off your order!

What You Should Know Before Investing in a Pair of Blundstone Boots

Tips for buying Blundstone boots: (links to all boots mentioned are at the bottom of the post)

  1. Read a TON of reviews
I read reviews on Blundstone’s site, on Amazon, on Backcountry, on Zappos. I wanted to get a feel for sizing & if people really felt these boots were worth it. The general consensus is they are. I also scoured instagram, Pinterest, & liketoknow.it for photos of people wearing them to see how they looked on different body types, sizes & with different outfits.
  2. Consider sizing up a half size for comfort
If you choose to get a different boot instead of the 1306 (which have the chisel toe–i.e. a square toe), I have read that going up a 1/2 size gives you a bit more wiggle room as far as width.
  3. Consider which shaft height & ankle opening would look best on you
I chose a mid-length shaft (& unfortunately they don’t give you this information, I just deducted it based on the look of all the different styles) because I wanted these to work with straight leg jeans, skinny jeans, leggings & dresses. There are different heights & different ankle openings (you can tell some ankle openings are wider than others) & I wanted a boot with a tighter ankle. I will say, these are tough to get on & off right now, but again, based on reviews they should loosen a bit with time.
  4. Decide on a color & material
For me, the rustic brown nubuck leather was a no-brainer because my wardrobe consists of mostly brown, but also because this rustic brown looks great with black. There is another style (the 1351’s, linked below) that has the rustic brown color & the stretchy part is black, which I considered, but I decided this color was best for me.
There seems to be a black version of almost every style of boot as well. They also have a bunch of styles that come in suede, nubuck, canvas, & I think they even have a vegan leather option now.

Hopefully those tips are helpful in your search for your perfect Blundstone boots!

Long story short, a few years ago I was looking at a pair of boots from Target & I was so close to clicking “buy” on them when I stopped and thought to myself– “with where I live (very wet, slushy, snowy in the winter) I’ll need to buy another pair of these in a few years!”.

This is when I decided to look for an alternative & longer lasting option. Enter–Blundstone boots!

My sister has been talking about buying a pair for a long time so I started researching them and asked my followers about them (everyone who had a pair had raving reviews for them!).

I did extensive searching & reading ALL the reviews of the different styles (and there are quite a few styles!) & I settled on the 1306 pair.

It’s considered a “dress boot” so the tread isn’t as thick as the other styles, but I wanted this pair because of the height of the shaft, the fact that it has a chisel toe, and the color. It’s very similar to their other popular styles (the 550 and 1351,) but I liked the coloring, toe, & style of these just a tad more than the other options. The pair I bought isn’t thermal (like this boot), but with thick socks on, I find them warm & very comfortable for winter.

SIZING: I kept my regular size because the website said these run a bit longer than other styles & the chisel toe gave me more wiggle room. I’m glad I did because they’re very comfy (even with thick socks on!) and feel great on.

Final conclusion: these boots were definitely an investment–I have never spent this much on a pair of shoes before. But, they are made of quality leather & will last a good, long time if they’re taken care of! I am hoping I’ll love them for a long time & that I will get a lifetime of use out of them!
I have treated mine with mink oil to condition the leather & I use a leather brush when they get dirty. The mink oil definitely darkened them but I don’t mind because I am taking good care of them.
