Color Combos to Wear: Black and Brown

I remember when it used to be a HUGE fashion no to wear black and brown together. I’m not sure why this was a rule (maybe people thought it was too “dark”?!) but I certainly wouldn’t follow it if it still was. I love a good black and brown outfit combo in all seasons! Here are four ways (plus a bonus outfit!) that I’m wearing black and brown together as we head out of summer and on to the cooler seasons.

If you prefer video content, the reel is HERE.

Do you wear black & brown together?

Outfit 1: black denim shorts, brown tank, brown cashmere sweater, and brown leather teva sandals— I love wearing a sweater with shorts on warmer fall days (this is a screenshot of a video—I forgot to take photos of this outfit!).

Outfit 2: taupe brown maxi dress, black cardigan, brown leather teva sandals, and matching brown leather bag with a black floral scarf on it—this dress is such a good one (also come in a ton of colors) and transitions into fall so nicely! You can wear it with a cropped cardigan like I am here, or a longer duster cardigan like I did in my outfit round up earlier this week (this is a screenshot of a video—I forgot to take photos of this outfit!).

Outfit 3: a brown turtleneck, black wide leg jeans, black Mary Jane flats, and a brown silk scarf —I love a fun wide leg pant! They are such a great silhouette and having fun with fashion doesn’t just mean adding color, it can also mean different silhouettes too!

Outfit 4: a brown cotton sweater, black straight leg jeans, and brown blundstone boots—my blundstones are a go-to in the cooler months and I love pairing them with black. Add a cozy sweater on top and you’re good to go!

And as a bonus, here is another outfit I’ve worn recently that is also black and brown!

Outfit 5: A little cropped tank is so cute with wide leg jeans! I loved adding the charm necklace for some bling. I finished the outfit with my Birkenstock sandals in this pretty brown color.

Five Ways to Wear Wide Leg Jeans for Fall and Winter

When I asked my followers what they wanted to see for fall content, a large request was for ways to wear wide leg jeans (and shoes to wear with them).

Here are five wide leg jean outfits with five different shoe options. To be clear, I am styling ONE pair of jeans, with different tops, shoes, & accessories! I like to maximize my wardrobe & style things multiple ways, so one pair of wide leg jeans is what I have here.

My jeans are almost sold out in this wash (they’re Levi’s ribcage  “she’s a cutie” wash, but there’s lots of other washes available!) so I did my best to try & find and link some wide leg jeans that are similar.

If you prefer video content, you can see the reel HERE and where I talk about the shoes HERE.

All items (or similar if it’s an older piece—it’s always noted in the L T K description if it’s not exact) will be linked beneath each photo. A heeled clog (or mule!) is always a cute option with wide leg jeans! I paired a button front cardigan and high neck tank with my wide leg jeans for this look.

This is a new option for me as far as shoes go, but a flat (and specifically in this outfit, a Mary Jane flat) can look really great with wide leg jeans. I fonished the look with a long black duster cardigan and high neck tank.

Loafers are also a new pairing with wide leg jeans for me, but I think they look wonderful! I especially love matching my top to my shoes (an “outfit sandwich”) and also adding a matching bag! A turtleneck is a favorite look of mine with wide leg jeans.

A classic heeled boot is a no brainer with wide leg jeans. It always looks classy! I added a white gauzy button up, silk scarf, and matching bag to complete the look.

Chelsea boots are one that I haven’t always paired with wide legs, but I feel like it’s really cute AND functional (especially in winter!). To finish this outfit, I added a cropped sweater, black denim jacket, and matching bag (I also forgot to take a photo of this look, so screenshots had to do!).

Quince Fall Outfits (a capsule for the fall season)

I find that I reach for my Quince items more often than any other items of clothing that I own. The quality of the fabrics, the earthy colors, the way their sweaters drape, & the comfort I feel when I wear their pieces is unmatched.

I own quite a few of their items at this point (& full disclosure—I have bought some and I have been gifted some as part of collaborations) and I just couldn’t recommend them more.

These are MOST of my Quince pieces (I have a few more summery pieces not shown) all styled together for the end of summer into the fall season. Some are items I have owned for a couple of years & some are pieces I got this spring. Feel free to comment and/or message me on IG if you have any specific questions!
